A Sofa without Cushions is like a person without friends, living lonely and isolated life.

Even now a day every person has at least one friend leaving some exceptions so why to leave your sofas alone pair them now with beautiful cushions.
Beautiful cushions increase the beauty of your sofa along with enhancing the beauty of your interiors.

They also give your home a polished look. Like everyone needs a good outfit to look beautiful so the cushions but the question is, How to choose right cushions or throw pillows and cushion covers and how many should we aim for?

Well here are some tips that will help you to buy perfect cushions and cushion covers.
Talking about cushions let’s give emphasis on the below points.

Choose a perfect Size

Generally, the standard size of cushions is between 16-18x16-18 for a larger sofa but primarily it is determined by the size of your sofa. So first measure the size of your sofa as small cushions for a large sofa will simply look out of place and oversized cushions for small sofas will occupy more space.

Understand the Patterns and Colors

This is the most complicated part when you are headed to buy cushions & cushion covers. How to pair patterns with colors? Does this polka dot cushions will go with my sofa? Does this grey color cover looks too classy? What generally happens is you get flooded by too many questions and in hurry either you drop the plan of shopping or you will purchase the inappropriate one.
Don’t worry; here are some suggestions that will help you to purchase cushions that will make a good pair with your sofa:

  • Believe in diversity because it will create unity. In simple words never pair two similar looking cushions with your sofa. Make them different, preferably one having patterns and other having a solid color.
  • If you like patterns then you can have a pair of cushions having different patterns like one having horizontal patterns and second having crossed patterns.
  • For large sofa consider two pairs of cushions having different colors and designs that pull up with your sofa
  • Select prints that neutralize colors, especially if you like bold patterns.  White, cream or beige will make the pillow eye-catching.

Shape matters

1. Basically, there are four types of shapes preferred for cushions – Squares, rectangle, bolsters and round.

2. Now the main part is how to judge what shape will go for your sofa? So the answer depends on the purpose of using the sofa.

3. For illustration, if you need it to support your body while lounging then go for the squares. They are the most common cushion shape and also it is ideal to cozy up to a sofa.

4. If you want a support for your lower back or neck then go for rectangular one.

5. If you own a Leather Sofa then you can be called a Smart Buyer if you Pair it with bolsters as they provide better wooden support and the main part is, they don’t slip down.

Type of Filling

To maintain Shape of the Cushions, feather, Foam, or a synthetic mix is considered generally. They are cheaper but the adverse part is cushions made of cheaper stuffing materials will break down after several weeks and it will become lumpy & shapeless and will be flattened out sooner. At last, they will look like the piece of old rags. So, if you are the regular buyer of Cushions and concerned about beautiful decoration then go for such Cushions. But if you are concerned about durability and decoration then go for goose down cushions because they are much softer and better in quality then the rest but they are costly.

To check the quality of cushions, fluff them several times, if they don’t lose feathers and resumes their shapes easily then they are of good quality.

Number of pillows

1. The number of cushions also matters. If your sofa is small and you have kept two pairs of cushions then it will give a hotchpotch look. It may happen that you have to sit on cushions other that sofa.

2. If you own a big sofa and there is only one pair of cushion then it will create an empty feeling.  Your sofa will look dull like you when you miss your friends. So I don’t think you will let this happen with your sofa.

3. So in simple word buy cushions according to a sitting capacity of your sofa. Like if you have six sitter sofa then pair it with six cushions likewise if you own four sitter sofa then add two pairs of cushions to it.

4. And if you are considering patterns then choose two identical pairs, preferably one solid and one patterned pillow on each side.
